Post Operative Care and Management Following PD Catheter Placement

1. Ensure that the catheter is securely capped
2. Cover the exit site with sterile gauze and tape.  Do not use a bio-occlusive dressing.
3. Hide catheter/keep it dry
4. Do not disturb for at least 2 weeks
5. Notify the Home Training Unit from the recovery room
6. If the catheter is to be used immediately, use:
   1. Small volumes (< 1L)
   2. Dry days
7. Heparin optional
8. Break-in period without use for at least 2 weeks
